Winter is AWESOME

If you ever needed any more proof of the validity of the above statement, behold: MALVACEAE!!

(Left and below) Hibiscus insularis - Phillip Island Hibiscus

Rare native Hibiscus - hasn't stopped flowering for months. Fades to a pinkish colour. Hot damn.

Gets to about 2m, can be trimmed to a very dense and bushy affair.

I very much think that this plant is VASTLY underrated.

It tolerates a variety of conditions and aspects, can be pruned severely and frequently, and is a lengthy bloomer. (Pity about the Metallic Flea Beetle though!)

(Right) Pavonia coccinea 'Shooting Stars'

Very structural upright shrub for warm, semi-shade area.

Easily propagated like most of the family.

The flower does not open any further than this, so don't waste too much time waiting for it to do so.

Gets to about 1.5 m, very slowly! Great for pots.
